Wedding Spotlight: Roma & Errol

The Journey Begins…and so it did on September 10th, 2010 at Paletta Lakefront Mansion in Burlington, ON.  We thoroughly enjoyed working with Roma and Errol to help make their fall travels themed wedding come true.

Bucking tradition, the couple, along with the wedding party, started their photo session before the ceremony to take pictures along downtown Burlington’s waterfront. The coverage continued at Paletta’s Lakefront Park. What gorgeous backdrops – we are really excited to see the photos that Rebecca and Daniella, from Rebecca Lozer Photography, took of the happy couple and their entourage!
Having a venue that could accommodate both the ceremony and reception was very important for Roma and Errol as there were several out of town guests in attendance, including the Bride’s Parents, who had travelled all the way from the Philippines.

After the ceremony took place on the Lakefront Terrace, guests continue to mingle throughout Paletta’s beautiful grounds before heading inside. Just inside the foyer, guests were welcomed with favours of personalized M&Ms and slippers from the Philippines. The slippers were such a hit with the ladies that they were all gone before the dancing had even begun!

As we could go on and on about this wedding’s details, we decided to prepare a “Top 3” list, based on the guests’ comments, to sum up the rest of the evening.

1) The never-ending food, provided by Michelangelo’s Banquet and Convention Centre. Believe us when we say it was mouth-watering, and with so many different choices, there was definitely something for everyone.

2) Roma and Errol’s wedding cake, created by Grace Cakes. Not only was it a work of art, but it was delicious too!

3) The music which kept the dance floor packed all night long, supplied by Jason from Bill Copeland DJ Service.

We had so much fun helping Roma and Errol have a stress-free day, and being there to watch them celebrate with their family and friends. We send our congratulations out to this amazing couple once again!

Stay tuned for more photos from Rebecca Lozer Photography.

5 Tips for Planning Any Outdoor Event

While a backyard event is an excellent way to host a unique and intimate affair, keep in mind that the cost of an outdoor can escalate out of control quickly as can the weather! We've put together a list of 5 things to consider when hosting an outdoor/backyard wedding.

5. Keep your guests comfortable. Are you getting married in the early fall? Hand out pashima's as favors to all of your lady guests to keep them warm in the cool evening air or have cozy blankets on hand for those who might want to snuggle to keep warm. Summer months usually mean scorching hot weather, provide your guests with mini hand held fans to cool themselves down, or have your groomsmen hand out personalized bottles of chilled water to your guests as they're seated for the ceremony.

4. Always be prepared with a backup weather plan. Is it going to be record breaking hot outside? Is the weatherman calling for rain? We always like to suggest that your outdoor venue has a spot suitable to move the ceremony indoors if needed. Also, make sure the tent rental has sturdy sides that won't blow away in the wind, and consider ordering a tent floor to eliminate a muddy, grassy mess if it does indeed rain.

3. Choose your menu according to the time of the year. Summer weddings can benefit from having an Iced Tea bar to quench your guests thirst or some tasty frozen treats during cocktails. Comfort foods and drinks like hot chocolate and warm cookies can be the perfect companion to an outdoor wedding in cooler weather.

2. Permit, permit, permit! We can't stress this enough, if you're planning a wedding or any type of event in your home, check with your City or Town for any appropriate permits you may need to host your shindig. Things to look into include noise limits, trash removal, candles or open fires and alcohol licensing.

And the number 1 tip we'd like to share for planning an outdoor wedding?

1. Before you put down any deposits or send those invitations, one major thing to consider is parking for your guests. When looking into permits, also find out from your municipality where your guests can park. Do you have a property big enough to accommodate 100 cars? Is there ample parking on the surrounding streets in your neighbourhood? No? If there's a carpool lot nearby consider having your guests park there and have them shuttled to your residence from a neighbour with a mini van. If cost is not an issue, let them arrive in style in a luxury bus or SUV limo.

Wedding Spotlight: Jenn & John

As is the case for many couples that opt for an intimate, destination wedding, Jenn and John wanted to celebrate with all their friends and family after getting married on an Alaskan cruise at the end of July. We had the pleasure of helping Jenn and John turn their backyard into a tented cocktail party for 100 of their closest friends and family members on August 21st, 2010.

The tent, floater tables, chairs, bar station, and linens, which were all provided by Affair Rentals, really helped to add that element of sophistication to their backyard. The three-tiered, heart shaped wedding cake, by Maggies Sweets, served as the centerpiece on the sweets table and helped tie in the colour theme of red and white inside the house.

Being collectors themselves, it was only fitting that Jenn and John should offer commemorative shot glasses to their guests as a memento of their special day. Filled with their favourite candies, the favours were arranged in their home’s entrance.

Millcroft Florists provided the exquisite floral arrangements found outside and inside the house.

Lastly, no party is a success without great food to keep everyone going. Sister Act Catering did an amazing job ensuring no guest went hungry. The smells coming from the kitchen were making my mouth water, so I can only imagine how good everything must have tasted!

Congratulations Jenn and John! We wish you a life full of love and happiness.
